Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow
I'm relatively new to the Josie Maran color range, although I have been a fan of Josie's for many years. In fact (*tangent alert!*), Josie Maran was the first legitimately famous person that ever followed me back on Twitter. This was back in the day before she launched her eponymous beauty range. I was, in a word, starstruck.
Fast forward several years later, and she has grown a hugely successful company, pioneered the use of Argan oil (now a household term), and she's brought out a makeup line. What a woman!
I decided to try out her Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadows after being madly in love with the swatches I've seen on YouTube (Ashley, I blame you!). I bought no less than four shadows (there are a total of 6 in the range). These are simply stunning. Hydrating with real coconut water, argan-infused pigments mix to create a metallic sheen unlike any other.
Above, from left: Bora Bora Bronze, Rio de Rose Gold, Playa del Pink, Beach Sand. All wearable, all blendable with a brush or, even better, your fingers.
These settle naturally due to the pigments-in-water formulation. I found the most frustrating thing to be that the metal ball that's meant to agitate and re-suspend the pigments gets caught deep in the pigment "sand" itself, so it can be really tough to get these fully mixed.
Playa del Pink is naturally the most sheer of the shadows I bought. The other colors in the range include a vivid purple and vivid forest green.
Above: the products come in boxes and are not fully assembled. You'll need to shake-shake-shake (and shake some more), then unscrew the black lid and plop in the doe-foot applicator. The handle on top is just for show: it's not a microdropper.
All in all, I'm in love with the range. I do wish they were easier to resuspend, but I'll happily deal with that in return for the amazing color payoff, shine, and longevity these hydrating eyeshadows provide. I haven't tried these with an eyeshadow primer, but I didn't find I needed one anyway.
