Color Blocking

I’ve been dying to try my hand at the color block trend. Pairing bright, solid colors that either complement or clash to herald the onset of spring? Yes please!

I admit this challenge did have some roadblocks. The first was that I realized I didn’t own a single solid bright colored bottom–nary a skirt, short or pant in sight. So off I trudged to Zara which I knew had all the brights going on this season, where I met my next roadblock: money. Why, why are you so expensive Z?! But oh, how I love you. And so I bought this skirt. I quite love it, actually, and can see myself pairing it with a white polka dot top or a creamy nude short sleeved sweater in the fall. I can’t wait to look through all of your wonderful color-blocking submissions–and believe me, I’ll go through them all, and so should you!

Tomorrow there will be a Bloggers Do It Better linkup post, where you can enter your link (including a spiffy thumbnail generator) to your color blocking assignment post! Can’t wait to check them all out!

Also, as a reminder, you will need to have the button on your blog to have your link eligible – if not, your link will unfortunately have to be removed. So make sure you have it up! Als0, feel free to link in your post to Bloggers Do It Better so people can enjoy everyone’s takes on the challenge, (use this link).

Peep the back of this top – it’s completely sheer lace, so I opted to go with a bra color that matches my skirt. That, combined with fuschia lips & coral polish on my nails means I was color-blocking my theoretical socks off!

Post your links on tomorrow’s Bloggers Do It Better: Colorblocking post! The linkup will be there!!

  29. 04.18.2011 / 1:29 pm

    Gorgeous outfit!

I was having the same problem with color blocking (yes, I've decided to participate in this week's challenge) – I don't have any bright colored bottom. I didn't go out and buy a new piece (though I would love to), so my color-blocking outfit might look a bit tame… but we'll see! ๐Ÿ˜€

  30. 04.18.2011 / 1:49 pm

Kritina, this is my most favorite outfit on you! You can teach a thing or two about color blocking to people who are desperately trying but failing. Hard. Including me! Loving it. Loving everything about you! You look so chic, so beautiful. Amazing.

  31. 04.18.2011 / 3:04 pm

That skirt is lovely! How could you not get it even with the price tag? Well I'd totally understand actually, considering my college budget! The back of the shirt give such character, too.
Excited for this new project, K! I'm off to take my shots sooon ๐Ÿ™‚

  32. 04.18.2011 / 3:05 pm

OH GOSH, GIRL! LOVING this!!! I just did red & pink in my Miami recap post! I love how bright both of your pieces are though! I've gotta do this some more ๐Ÿ˜‰

  33. 04.18.2011 / 3:21 pm

You color-blocked beautifully! ๐Ÿ™‚ I bought a vintage fuchsia pencil skirt at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago, so I was SO excited that the first BDIB challenge was color blocking! I'll be sending my link tomorrow!!

LOVE this. I just bought that H&M dress too and I can't wait to style it. I've been dying to do color blocking and love everything at Zara as well! You styled this beautifully.

  38. 04.19.2011 / 12:27 am

You look amazing! I would love that skirt too, but it's too short for me to wear to work so I can't justify buying it, boohoo. Love the matching bra, and the lipstick is beautiful on you!

  39. 04.19.2011 / 1:16 am

I must admit it is a daring combination you did, but the colours match perfectly!! I also like the fact that the back of your top is lace (and the colour of the top is to die for)!
Thank you for organizing this event! can't wait for more!

    I. LOVE. YOUR. OUTFIT. PERIOD. The colors are so vibrant… I try to avoid going to Zara because I always end up buying at least one item… I spent way too much there last month… and thanks to you I now have to go pay them a visit! again ๐Ÿ™‚

    • 04.19.2011 / 4:18 pm

Thanks hun! Most of the time my lovable boyfriend HB takes my outfit photos. Other times I will take them myself using a tripod and remote. Other photography including food & interiors etc is also my handiwork. I was a pro photographer in college so this has rekindled my love for it! xoxo

I have so much respect for women who can wear pieces like this. I agree with everyone above – you look incredible! I love that this outfit is so bold but you make it look feminine and pretty rather than harsh. I'm in awe again of your styling ability.
