everything is better in b&w

The weather here in Houston has been incredibly grey, dreary, and cold. Unsurprisingly, this does little for my resolve to photograph my outfits. Instead, I find myself indoors, huddled under a cozy blanket (or sometimes even my pink–gulp–Snuggie!) searching for inspiration. I came across a bunch of poetic, artistic black & white photos that I simply couldn’t not share. I hope you enjoy! P.S. big welcome to my new sponsor as of today, Ruche!

And maybe a little color…

I particularly love this last image…just seems so effortlessly chic, and the sheer bra, huge voluminous curls, perfect pink lipstick, and multi-color ray-ban glasses…love this.

  • I am totally loving your post today. I, too, am sitting under a blanket here in this Houston dreary-ness, and I cannot wait for some sunshine!!

    • Yay! Thanks Meg. It's hard to be inspired under such gloomy circumstances.

  • Lynn Z.

I am proud to admit that I own not one, but two Snuggies! Leopard print and blue!

  • Ann

that last hairstyle is amazing. so LUSH! and i don't know if that's a fur coat or a really chunky knit but I feel it.

    • I can't tell either Ann but I just love everything about that look. So vixen!

  • Ha! I totally have a pink snuggie too! It's in my office for the days when the med school building just gets unbearably cold (which is a lot!). Thanks for sharing these gorgeous photos! Maybe I'll be inspired not to wear jeans and a sweatshirt today.. 🙂

    • I've been in this sick syndrome of coming home from work and changing immediately into my pajamas. This has got to stop.

  • Love these…people were so glam then.

    • Why can't we be so naturally glam like they were back them? I agree and feel like nowadays when someone looks glam, it looks good, but forced in a way.

  • Congrats on the new sponsor. I love love love b&w….especially dated. Models back in the day were so effortlessly glamourous.

    • Thanks! I do have a fondness for B&W too…I would do all of my outfit pics in b&w if it didn't leave out so much important stuff about an outfit (like, um…color)!!

  • Oh, these are so striking! Something about black and white will always be my first love…

    • Couldn't agree more Ashe, couldn't agree more…

  • i LOVE these pictures; all this huge hair is right up my alley. the higher the hair, the closer to heaven, right?

    • Oh my gosh veronika I'd never heard that saying before but I LOVE IT!

  • gorgeous pictures!!! I love old black and white shots.

  • I love black and white photos – they have a certain atmosphere to them, I think.

Cuddling up inside when the weather's cold is the best – I'm actually looking forward to winter down here so I can do that again!

    • I'll trade ya anytime, Jane from down under!!

  • A great selection of b&w. Also loving the Ray Bans.

  • B & W images always look so classic and chic i love them and 60s hair is soo amazing, soo full of body.

  • My feelings about black and white photos constantly waver. Part of me loves them and thinks b&w can make even the dullest photos look artistic, but at the same time, I hate when dull photos are in b&w because they look more artistic. However, none of these photos are dull, making them perfection.

p.s. The wild hair and orange lips are to die for, as well!

    • Couldn't agree more, Chelsea! It's interesting what you say about dull photos, too…and it's true I guess it can be seen as a kind of a cheat with bad photos, but sometimes I find myself looking at a photo and thinking "This would look SO much better in B&W". Maybe it's a texture/contrast thing that makes it so much more noticeable or appealing in B&W. I don't know!

  • These photos are gorgeous and help drag me out of the slimy, slushy, icky weather haze under which I've been wandering. I love winter, but Chicago is just gross at the moment! Seeing that last photo, with the sort of bemused look on the model's face, makes me want to be as lost in warm weather and water as she is. Great post!

  • I absolutely love black and white photos. Sometimes, they're so much better without the color. The subject of a black and white photo is so much more the focus than when in color. Just creates a different mood. These photos make me miss summer!

  • Wonderful photos! And I had to laugh and comment because currently I'm snuggled up in my zebra-print snuggie… hahaha! xo

  • Oh, the dreamy timelessness of black & white photography! So much style and statement. I love sepia photos too.
