Friday ~ Frankie Diary ~ FBFF

{ i’m truly in love with my frankie 2011 diary by frankie magazine }

{ it’s sold out everywhere so i had to pay $$ on ebay to get it in my hands }

{ it was so worth it }

Well ladies and gents…it’s Friday! I’m about to go sit through 2.5 hours of a Neurology final examination that is sure to give me a swift kick in the pants, but I’m hoping I get through it with at least a passing grade. Neurology is not my strong point, to put it lightly. The past four weeks of this rotation have been equal parts frustrating and busy- usually with 12 hour days, leaving me little time to study, let alone work on outfits for the blog. But fashion week is almost here, and you know what that means…..NYC!!!

Have a great weekend, folks! I solemnly promise to take outfit photos this weekend, see the movie Country Strong, purchase a new vehicle (yay), and sleep in.

Fashion Beauty Friend Friday: Blogger Mechanics

  1. What technology do you use in blogging? Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi, various lenses, old rickety tripod, camera remote
  2. What computer and online technology do you use? WordPress, iMac 27″, iPhoto for storage, Photoshop CS5 for editing
  3. What is your process for taking pictures? Normally I beg and plead for my boyfriend to take outfit shots–but when he’s unavailable, I’ll set up a tripod somewhere and take them with my remote. I’m too shy to do it in public with the tripod yet because I feel silly and ridiculous, but I hope to get over that fear soon.
  4. When it comes to backdrops for your photos what do you consider? Do you scout locations or shoot the same spot daily? I don’t go on scouting trips per se, but HB and I will be driving and point and say “Hey that’d make a great outfit post”…but normally due to time constraints we choose locations nearby, such as the parking garage, park, balcony, or hallways. How much effort we put into the location really depends on free time–the desire to make them beautiful is always there, it’s the time that isn’t!
  5. If you could splurge and get one new piece of equipment what would you be buying? Absolutely, without-a-doubt, 100% want the Canon 7d. The professional photographer in me is painfully aware of the Rebel XSi’s limitations, though they’re probably not as apparent to the average user. It’s a great DSLR, especially if you’re starting out, but I miss my 20D, which I sold a long time ago to pay for the XSi. The 7d is just an amazing camera, and even has HD video which would negate lugging along my camcorder altogether (bonus)! Of course, if I was really dreaming, it’d be the Canon 5d. But the 7d is a little less expensive with nearly as many features.

    I saw Country Strong yesterday! Being a lover of The Grateful Dead and Phish, country music has never been my thing – but after hearing all of the songs in the movie, I might just give it a whirl! Gwenyth Paltrow was amazing!

    Good luck on your Neuro final! I'm proctoring the ABSITE exam tomorrow…5 hours…yikes!

    Lynn

    • I saw it and it was pretty good! Gwyneth really was amazing…

  • That diary looks beautiful! I adore diaries – I'm aware that may sound pathetic but I do! I'm super-organised and have to have one so it may as well be pretty as well as practical ^_^

    Good luck with your exam!

    • It's not pathetic – I adore them too! At least if it is, we can be pathetic together. 🙂

  • I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who has to beg their boyfriend to take outfit photos!!!! And is too shy to head outside on their own to take photos of themselves with a remote. Although I do still have a long way to get to your standard!!

    Good luck in your exam! Neurology?!! Sounds like a pain!!

    Enjoy your weekend 🙂

  • Woah, that planner looks awesome! Right now I'm stuck using a little journal…it's great for writing down thoughts that run through my mind, and I try to tape things into it so that I'm able to look back and see what my last semester of college was like.

    We all seem a bit camerashy when people are watching, hah!

    • It's funny how we all are but we assume the everybody else isn't the slightest bit shy!

  • That journal is gorgeous! And I totally know how much of a pain anything relating to neuroscience can totally be–I wish you the bet of luck!!! Can't wait to aee another outfit post soon 🙂

    • I plan to do some good outfits this weekend that I can shoot…the past two weeks have been majorly busy so I've been slacking on that front…new outfit up soon, I promise!

  • Also, have you ever thought about doing the 30 for 30 challenge? I'm doing it for the first time starting next week and I am so excited to see what will come of it!

  • So glad to hear that you aren't comfortable taking outfit shots in public by yourself. I don't know if that is a fear I will ever get over, so for now I stick to my tried and true locations and the rare moment when a can get a friend or relative to photograph me. – Katy

    • Frankly, I feel like if you ARE comfortable taking outfit shots in public by yourself, there's something wrong with you that I truly admire….haha

  • What a gorgeous planner! And Country Strong is definitely worth your time 🙂

    BAH.

    GOOD LUCK.

    (I'm actually majoring in neuroscience, haha! If you're in Houston, do you do rounds at TIRR? My older sister was rehabilitated there after her car accident left her paralyzed.)

    I had my MCAT today, so I hope you'll do better on your final than I did on that exam. -____-

    • Hey! We don't actually round at TIRR, but I just referred one of my patients there this week for rehab. Of course it's getting a lot of publicity now what with the Congresswoman Giffords being over there. She was in our ICU for a while, first.

  • The diary is so lovely, I have hearts in my eyes! I'm so disappointed I couldn't get my hands on it before it sold out, but I would've ruined it with my messy writing anyway.

    I only recently realised how hard it is to take outfit photos, after trying it (without anyone to help or a tripod). And I'd definitely be too shy to do it in public as well.

    • Outfit shots always take less time than I think they will, interestingly enough. I try to remind HB of that every time 😉

  • My husband gave me a Tiffany planner/journal for Christmas…I'm in love, I may never go back to my Target one ever again! It was $$, but def worth every penny..I take it everywhere and whip it out for everything. Your looks a bit more fun than mine though!

    • Ooh Tiffany, I'm so jealous! you'll have to share a link to it so we can see what it looks like.

  • found your blog through fbff. i LOVE that journal! and i wish you luck being brave taking pictures of yourself in public — i'm totally not there yet. 🙂

    • Me either, monique…me either. 🙂

  • I LOVE this. Truly a must-have. I like that it's hardback, and the Notes to Self are adorable.

    • I love that it's got a vintage feel to it, being cloth-bound. One of my most precious posessions is an early edition copy of The Wizard of Oz my librarian in elementary school gave to me. Hmm I'll have to write about that sometime, it's truly a sweet story!

      Anyway, I love love love this planner. Love.

  • Oooo big time purchase! Always fun 🙂

    I think the biggest combined fear bloggers have must be taking photos of themselves in public. I greatly admire those who take awesome, dramatic photos of themselves with all kind of people watching on in public. I just stick to my backyard!!

    • I stick to "relatively" semi-private areas. I'm not afraid to go to the park or a jogging track or golf course, for example, but I just can't do it alone!!

  • Hi hon! Hope you are well! A few things- I love that diary- it's lovely!; yes, go see Country Strong- loooved it!; I've been figuring out what camera to get- will need to look into the 7D!; have so much fun at Fashion Week! xo, mel

  • So glad you did this #FBFF post, cause I love knowing what technology you use. I'm ready to move on from the Canon Xsi too…at least to a new lens! But it's good to read others' opinions of cameras because there are so bloody many, trying to narrow it down is daunting.

    Hey I stumbled across your blog from Modly Chic and was drawn in by the thought of another blogger who loves Frankie as much as me!
    I recently read about a competition to win one of these diaries so I was just curious to see what it looked like. It's as cute a I thought it would be, great buy 🙂
