I’ve Been…Busy

Yours truly matched to her number one residency choice — Houston is stuck with me for at least another four years! You’re looking at a future Anesthesiologist!

Additionally, we’ve been house-hunting and yesterday the house that we made some offers (and counter-offers) on was outbid by another buyer and accepted. Heartbroken, yes, but it also means to me that it wasn’t meant to be our house. So it’s back to the drawing board!

Today I’m doing a little more house-hunting with our realtor, and then this afternoon is my first dress fitting–yay! I get to bust out the Manolos!

So truly exciting about the match – that rocks!!! And hang in there with the house hunting. As sad/heartbreaking as it is to lose out on houses that you love, you totally have the right attitude about it-you will find your home soon enough! Good luck!

Congratulations on your match! I’m sure you feel so relieved and accomplished 🙂 Any tips for a 2nd year medical student who is about to take her boards in June (because clearly you rocked yours!)?

From another 4th year med student, for boards it’s PRACTICE QUESTIONS that are KEY!!!! I preferred USMLE World to Kaplan, even though my school provided us with free Kaplan q-bank. Good luck!!!! I also did Doctor’s In Training, which was very helpful (but time consuming). Best of luck, future doc!

Congratulations!!! That is GREAT news. We live in Houston too and I love it here. It is a GREAT medical community as you already know. Unfortunately, we spend a lot of time in the med center and we are lucky to live just a few miles from it.
I am sorry about the house situation. It is hard. We live in town near the med center and it is a very competitive market. When we moved back a few years ago, we made a bid on a house that had been on the market a few months. Just hours after our offer, someone came in and outbid us. I cried. I was so sad. People told us there was a reason and there was a better house for us but I did not really think there was. They were right. Our house and neighborhood and school are all a better fit. Hope you find something!!!

Congratulations!! I loved that video. My husband matched at his #1 last week too! At his med school they do it in a different (and much more potentially embarrassing) way where they have to go up in front of everyone and read their envelope results. Yours looks way more relaxing. I made a little video of his, too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DkD1DaweLBY
Good luck with everything – wedding, new house, new job?! This is going to be the best year of your life!

The house stuff may be a sign. I went through a crazy year, two years ago where I landed my first job, got married (out of state!) and bought a house.
Society tells you all these things need to happen NOW in order to call yourself successful. But no one tells you how much money and time a house will take away from you. Especially as a newly married couple trying to jump into new careers. We ended up spending all our very precious and limited time together mowing the yard, dealing with maintenance and repairs, writing big checks and stressing.

Do yourself a favor and wait. Rent a house close to your job and just enjoy each other in marital bliss. Spend your free time blogging and vacationing, not researching roofers and plumbers. Just my two cents.

Congratulations!! Anesthesiologist are the BEST! They make having babies so relaxing, among other things 8D

Hey Kristina, you don’t know me, but I am a member of the CE family and like to think of myself as a friend to your brother and mother. 🙂 I just wanted to say Congratulations on your match for residency! I’m glad all of your hard work payed off! I’m sure cloud nine will have a permanent resident awhile. It looks as though many wonderful, exciting things are coming into your life and I hope that they bring you all the happiness the world has to offer. It always seems to me that the rewards in life taste a tad sweeter when it is something that you have dreamed about or worked extremely hard for and is earned. So I will be taking my leave now so you can get back to other things. Good Luck with house hunting and finding the perfect dress! Here’s hoping you find what you are looking for! Take Care. 🙂 <3
