love it: theit camera bag

A couple of weeks ago I contacted a little company called THEIT that did not even have a website yet because I wanted to help them spread the word about their fabulous new product that I just knew my readers would salivate over.

But in order to show you just how amazing this product is, let me first introduce you to Old Camera Bag:

Ewwww. I know, right? I’ve literally had this camera bag since I got my first Digital SLR in college (yeah, that was about 2003, folks). To be fair, it has held up through about 8 years of travel and roughing around. But…it had to go.

I was too embarrassed to lug it around with me on dates and such for outfit shots, so I had resorted to taking only my camera, slung on my shoulder or, in ghetto improvisation, wrapped in a scarf and tossed in my handbag.

So I began searching for fashion-friendly camera bags. None, literally none, compared to this quilted black beauty by THEIT. You’ve seen it on PSS before here and here. Scroll down for more photos and my review at the end.

This gorgeous midnight faux-leather quilted bag has everything I love in a bag:

  • it’s quilted
  • it has a tassel
  • animal-friendly
  • it has a leather and metal chain strap (very Chanel-esque, also)
  • has several pockets
  • contains a removable organizer which you can customize to fit your gear, and remove the whole thing when you want to just use it as a purse!
  • roomy
  • durable, quality construction

There are some things that bother me a lil’ though:

  • I would love a real-leather option (I love animal friendly products, but this Southern girl loves leather too, and the PVC-like smell when I first opened it up was noticeable–fortunately it goes away pretty quickly)
  • the pockets are a bit skinny so it’s hard to imagine what can fit in them other than business cards or extra storage cards
  • it won’t fit my 70-200mm telephoto lens AND my camera at the same time (I do have a LOT of camera gear, though, and it fits EVERYTHING except the jumbo lens)

Overall, I think it’s fantastic, and I can’t wait to bring you more news and products from THEIT, as I’ve partnered up with them to debut their new spring line when it comes out — can’t wait for that! There is pretty much a continual waitlist since these bags are in hot demand right now, but they get new shipments all the time so be sure to sign up and you’ll be sure to get yours within a week of ordering.

So very cute! I used to do the scarf thing with my camera too! Ha, Ha so bad. I have since found a much smaller case that fits IN some of my other bags…. but I like this bag a whole lot more!
but your right, it would be better if it were leather..

Totally agree with you about the leather option. I have an Epiphanie camera bag that allows for larger lenses, and my laptop, but it too only comes in faux leather 🙁 Next company to make a real leather version with more storage gets my business!

    • 03.22.2011 / 5:18 pm

I'll make sure THEIT knows that! 😉

Wow what a great bag. You should see the one I lug around. The strap broke so I tied it in a knot and it looks so jankity. Thanks for the honest critique too!

I keep seeing theit bags on so many blogs. They look so nice. I have a small pocket size camera so I can't really use something like this. That bag also cost more than my camera was. But, if I ever upgrade I will definitely need a stylish bag to protect it.

i just purchased my very first camera bag as well (still waiting for it to come knocking on my door). like you, i have resorted to desperate measure of wrapping my camera in a scarf and crossing my fingers that no big man is going to bump into my bag and damage my camera LOL

Oh my gosh – I am IN LOVE! Thank you SO much for sharing this. Finally a camera bag that is suitable for us fashionistas. As soon as I get my new camera (hopefully sooner than later), you can bet I'll be purchasing one of these to go along with.

I also did an intense "cute camera bag" investigation. I ended up choosing JoTotes, but this one was on top of my radar as well! However, it was always out of stock and I couldn't figure out if I could actually ever buy it. sad. I hope that the site kicks off and is more user friendly to spread cute camera bags to us chic DSLR users!

  13. 03.25.2011 / 1:45 pm

You are so right, it is a gorgeous bag! It's already sold out on their site 🙁

  14. 03.28.2011 / 1:59 pm

Ha! I am so guilty of wrapping the camera in a scarf and throwing it in my purse. sometimes I also cut out the scarf step in the whole thing. (Don't tell anyone, it's my dirty secret that I am a dumbass)
I really fell in love with this bag when i first saw it (on some blog a few weeks ago) and then i saw the price and realized that it was (sadly) in the 'refuse to dish out that much for a bag' category. I am a self proclaimed cheapass. Anyhoo… just a few questions (if you have the time to answer these) I am assuming (I could be wrong!) that you got this bag for free (i mean no offense – hell id love a free bag!) now would you spend the 160+$ on it? and if you paid for it – do you think that it's worth the price? I work in a company that designs diaper bags and knowing how cheap bags cost from the factory, i find it hard to dish out the $$$ for a PVC bag.

Also, is the outside padded really well? I keep thinking i need to construct my own camera bag by finding those padded pieces somewhere and putting them into a similar bag I found at the thrift store. In your honest opinion, is it worth the money to just get this bag (or something similar?)

sorry for this novel, ive just been really curious if it's worth the price. I have never spent that much on a bag and I'm all about living life on the cheap.

p.s. your blog is adorable, ive never actually left a comment before but only because I have self diagnosed ADD and I get distracted easily.

    THE END.

Hi there! I think you win the award for one of the longest non-contest comments ever! To get to the point YES I would buy this with my own money, YES it is excellent quality, YES it is well padded and I like the fact that you can rearrange things to fit your camera stash, and you can take out the organizer and use it just as a purse if you like. I do agree that it's a bit pricey but all fashionable well-made camera bags are. In fact, even the ugly camera bags run around that price. I think it's well worth it!

This is GLORIOUS! I have a big ugly bag, and tons of gear, too… I need this!
