Makeup Monday: Coming Up Roses

This girl has been obsessed with pale pinks and rose tones lately, and it has been infiltrating my daily makeup looks for the past month. I am a huge fan of pale pink blush – I think I own every rendition there is. There’s just something so fresh, youthful, and lovely about cheeks that look like you’ve just come inside from a brisk wintery walk. So healthy! And on my fair complexion there is no shortage of lovely pinks for lips & cheeks that I simply cannot pass up in any makeup store.

This rose-toned theme has never been more appropriate as we bridge the gap from winter to spring. A great way to ground all that feminine pink is to have a dramatic cat-eye liner–and my Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner is perfect for it. Check out all the lovely products featured here (I’m obsessed with the By Terry Baume de Rose–my lips have never been softer…never) and I must confess, the only item I don’t own above is the Balenciaga…I’m not hugely keen on the brand but I did find the color so appealing and appropriate for spring, so it found its way in here.

Samantha – never fear! Try a rosier shade (less icy), the Tarte amazonian clay blushes are great for that, either in Amused or the redder color (I forget the name)

Yes, I also have olive skin and have so enjoyed these pinks, I have always used bronzes and more browns but I have now expanded to include these pinks. Love the look!

Yay for pinks! We must be on the same wavelength because I just bought that NARS blush at Sephora last week…also bought the NARS lip pencil in Roman Holiday, which is the perfect bright bubblegum semi-matte lipcolor – you would LOVE it! 🙂

To me it’s harder than a pencil but easier than a liquid eyeliner. Youtube has tons of tutorials on how to apply gel eyeliner– I recommend doing a quick search!

I think I need to add that YSL Rouge #7 to my lipstick collection, such a gorgeous shade!

We don’t have the Revlon lip butters here in the UK yet, however I’m coming to the States in 3 weeks and these are on my wish list along with too many other things including: – Michael Kors watch, Sam Edelman booties, lots of Mac cosmetics, J crew blouses, jeans ….see what I mean 🙂 That balenciaga city bag is BEEYOOTIFUL….I have a blue one and it’s just the softest leather EVER!Your blog is so fantastic – thank you for inspiring us 🙂 x

These pinks are so happy and perfect for Valentine’s day! Do you know of any pinkish lipsticks that look good on naturally reddish lips? My lips are a darker reddish-pink and I fear that light pink lipsticks will look clownish on me.

I have been searching for a great eyeliner and may have to check out this gel variety. I’ve been pretty loyal to a thick black pencil for a dramatic swoop, but recently it seems to be rubbing below my eye more often than staying put!in dramatic fashion

  11. 02.13.2012 / 7:19 pm

I love these pinks you chose! I’ll definitely be getting the revlon lip butter today!

  12. 02.13.2012 / 8:10 pm

Lovely colors! I’m a big fan of the rosy pink with black cat-eye look as well! I’ve gone back and forth about getting the by Terry Baume de Rose… is it as amazing as I think it would be? I’ve added it to my cart and then not followed through so many times – I would hate to spend the money and end up hating it!

    • 02.13.2012 / 9:46 pm

Honestly the By Terry balm has changed my lips. I have heard it is different because it contains zero petroleum, so it actually moisturizes deep down in the lips, rather than sitting on top like most balm products (vaseline included, which is pure petroleum jelly).
It’s expensive, to be sure, but it lasts most people 1-2 years. I have mine on my nightstand and apply it every night before going to sleep and my lips have never been smoother.

      • 02.14.2012 / 2:38 am

Awesome, that’s really good to know about the Baume de Rose – thanks! I have also been trying to stay away from petroleum-based balms because I’ve heard similar things (they’re not actually moisturizing, etc.). I think I’ll splurge on this the next time I order something from! 🙂

  13. 02.13.2012 / 8:31 pm

I am loving pale pinks this season! Especially in a lipstick, totally gonna check out the ones you suggest. Just in time for Valentines Day!

  14. 02.13.2012 / 8:52 pm

Pretty in pink, this would go great with my “light” aka pale complexion right now

  15. 02.14.2012 / 12:04 am

i also am a SUCKER for blush. even though i have oilier skin, my fave is a cream blush by NARS (the multiple). as a m/u artist i’ve tried them ALL and so happy to have found the one that makes me dewy and healthy looking. just tried the bobbi brown gel liner, and i like it, but am not in love YET. need a few more tries. great post xo

Of course!! Rose pink is THE color when entering into spring … I love it when stores come out with pink products around this time of the year. I have a purse in the Balenciaga tone from Aldo … might be willing to pull it out again in time for the arrival of spring!!

  17. 02.14.2012 / 1:46 am

I love Bobbi Brown Gel Eye Liner. I recently bought some for the first time. After many failed attempts at eyeliner Bobbi Brown has been a very successful purchasefor me.

These are all such great picks. If I could have any it would be the giant city buttttt since my budget is a little more modest I think I’d go for the lip butter 🙂

  20. 02.14.2012 / 5:31 am

I love these! Such a great color!

  21. 02.16.2012 / 4:18 pm

I love both of those blushes…need to check them out in person! I just bought the revlon lip butter in a different color [Gumdrop], and love it.

  22. 02.19.2012 / 2:44 am

love this little round up! i am so girly when it comes to my makeup and nars gaiety has actually found a recent, permanent home in my routine. in addition: that mac blush is stun-ning and the by terry baume is hot on my list after your facebook recco!
