My Wedding Look

My rehearsal dinner dress was found rather fortuitously while shopping for my mom’s evening dress for the wedding, at Tootsie’s (oh how I love this place). It’s by Black Halo and it’s a white with cream/beige lace windowed back–actually very reminiscent of Bella Swan’s wedding dress from Twilight.

Hair-wise, I’m going for a romantic Brigitte Bardot inspired half-up style. I’m not sure if my wimpy little hair can take it, so I might have to get professional extensions (pro-dyed to match my hair, naturally). Supposedly there are pro kinds that you clip in to your hair, which is so much more appealing than having them permanently tied or glued to your hair. I’d love to hear about your experience with extensions.

The earrings are by Kenneth Jay Lane, and they are marvelous. Much to my frustration, I simply cannot find these online anywhere. I purchased these from the Wedding Suite in my local Nordstrom and I cannot figure out why they are nowhere online. These are really gorgeous baubles, huge actually, and surrounded by a little pavé halo which I loved because it’s similar in style to my engagement ring.

The cuff is a gorgeous splurge by Cristina Ferrare, it’s called the Cosmic Square cuff and it’s the sparkliest thing I’ve ever worn on my wrist. Needless to say, with the bracelet and earrings, I’m keeping the neckline simple with a tiny petite pavé cross that I always wear.

The clutch adds a bit of fun, don’t you think? Little pink rosettes to match the flowers of the day (pink peonies and ranunculus) and a little bling never hurts, at least in this girl’s mind.

I did clip in extensions for my wedding and they worked so well! I didn’t even have to have them dyed. I had someone at Sally Hansen beauty supply help me choose them and they looked so natural and just really made my hair look fuller. Here are photos:
I had done glue in extensions for Prom and they looked great but, like you said, were a huge pain to get out, plus I didn’t want them glued in while I was on my honeymoon in Jamaica. I never once felt like the clip in extensions weren’t secure and my stylist clipped them in and styled my hair like normal! I’d so recommend it! Plus, they’re worth the $100 because you’ll be able to reuse them and I do for fancy occasions 🙂 Good luck!

Clip in extensions are super easy to use and won’t damage your hair like glue-in extensions. I used to wear clip ins all the time and never had a problem, though I’ve heard if you wear them daily they will make your hair thin out – similar to the glue-in or sewn in extensions.
You’re going to look so beautiful! Love the hairstyle, and that dress is just gorgeous!

I’ve used clip in extensions from Sally’s and while they looked great they gave me the worst headaches by the end of the day!! I would recommend trying them but make sure your scalp can take it before you commit to wearing them on your wedding day!Last summer I splurged and got Hot Heads hair extensions ( They are actually taped in, as odd as that sounds. They were so much longer than my clip ins and didn’t bother me at all, as I assumed all that weight would. They are a nice little chunk of change but they were totally worth it to me.

  22. 02.29.2012 / 9:02 pm

Hi Kristina! I actually DO have extension advice – my colorist recently wooed me into trying the clip-ins, which I was VERY hesitant about thinking my hair was going to fall out somewhere in the French Riviera, but apparently thats not what happens – they put in the clip and a press of the flat iron makes it stick….they can be washed, dryed, curled etc and last for 3 weeks – and they match your color exactly. Mine is $245 an hour but those are NYC proces, so probably cheaper in Texas…..and they come off (if you want) with a q-tip and a little rubbing alcohol – and they look so natural and I was more into volume than length. Good luck but trust me, perfect idea for a wedding/honeymoon time period! xoDevon

    • 02.29.2012 / 9:07 pm

Thanks for this input, Devon! I’m more about the volume too since i have very fine hair. I thought the clip ins were just the kind that you clip in and take out at the end of the night though…are these a special kind that stay longer, then?

      • 02.29.2012 / 9:14 pm

Hi Kristina – These stay for about three weeks, and they are amazing!!! Your salon will definitely know about them. I tried them on a “practice run” for my wedding/honeymoon and just cannot recommend them enough!! Definitely something your colorist has to put in though, not bought from store. I get my hair done at Mario Diab in NYC — they just call them “hair extensions” on their site. If you are BFF with your colorist, they will probably put a couple in for free so test them out! I am excited for you — you will love!

Hi! I’ve used hair extensions as well (for fun), but I have some friends that LOVE to wear them. One of them wore them in an updo to create more volume, and the other to add length. And honestly I couldn’t even tell they had them in! The color match (one brunette & the other blond) was perfect!
This is where most of them have bought them:

The best ones they like are:
16″ easiXtend Elite Remy Human Hair Clip In Extensions (8 pcs) by easihair.

I can’t wait to see your wedding dress!!! Excited for you!

  24. 02.29.2012 / 9:34 pm

This dress is amazing. And what is so great about it, it is would be great to keep and pull out in a few years for a cocktail party or anniversary dinner!

  25. 02.29.2012 / 9:59 pm

Yes! My hair stylist has the clip in extensions and they look amazing! They look totally real and absolutely gorgeous.
Love your dress and hair idea – you’re going to look gorgeous.

Hi there! Beautiful selections 🙂 I’ve done clip-in extensions twice and absolutely loved the results. The first time I did them, I bought a single piece extension that sort of spans the width of your head. It sounds freaky, but it looked really nice and gave me the best volume. It also felt more secure. The next time I tried it, I used a package of hair “pieces” or sections. These felt a little less secure and were a bit of a pain to take out at the end of the night. That’s my two cents!

  28. 03.01.2012 / 3:35 am

Love it love it!!! You are going to look superb. Yay weddings!!! I have 157 days to go 😉
