Nivea Lip Butter Review

I recently got my hands on a much-raved-about set of Nivea Lip Butters and just had to share them with you! They are fairly new, so you won’t see them stocked in every drugstore just yet, but they’ve been in the U.K. for a while and that’s where all the hype built up. Click on to see whether or not I thought they lived up to par!

  • Original
  • Caramel Cream
  • Vanilla & Macadamia
  • Raspberry Rosé (my favorite)

I love the scent of these. I like that they’re subtly tinted to differentiate between the “flavors”, but they don’t alter your natural lip color, so the lipstick you swipe on next won’t be affected

Packaging is simple, sleek, and stays shut when closed with a satisfying snap. I normally don’t like pots for sanitary reasons, but I found that I use these mostly before bed, when I’ve already washed my hands and face anyway so the point is moot. If you’re squeamish about pots, I don’t know what to tell you. I do like that the outside looks different depending on the flavor – because I can easily grab my favorite even when I’m bleary-eyed at night before I go to bed.

This stuff really works. I wake up in the morning and my lips are baby smooth and flake-free. That’s saying a lot from someone who’s chronically dehydrated and sporting chapped lips 80% of the time! It does list petrolatum (basically vaseline jelly) in the ingredient, which is an effective moisturizer, however I know some people prefer to stay away from petrol-based products. Ultimately, petrolatum is just an ingredient, and was discovered incidentally on an oil rig. It’s just a wax, but it boosts wound-healing properties (due to creating a barrier over the injury protecting from the environment), as well as prevents moisture loss, which is important in lip protection.

Hard to beat the $3.99 price tag. It is truly on par with my favorite $60 lip balm that also sits on my nightstand!

The Verdict

Get your hands on these. Especially raspberry rosé (it’s my favorite)!

I picked up the raspberry after you did your May favorites and I really love it. I also use it primarily at night because I live in the desert and it really makes my lips so soft when I wake up. Good price too!

Everyone has been talking about these! I think I’m going to have to get in on one or two myself. Thanks for the review!

Love the look of these. Not only are they the perfect size to carry in any bag, but the fact that they work makes them fantastic! It’s such a pity they do not stock them in South Africa. Perhaps they will bring them in some time in the near future.

Love the Raspberry. Smell is wonderful. It does pale out my lips if I use a heavy hand, but if I’m wearing it at night – who cares? Most of the time, I just put the pot straight to my lips to avoid having to dip my fingers in.

I noticed this too, which is why I probably wouldn’t wear this during the day, but it’s great for night. Would be just a smidge better product if it were truly colorless in my opinion.

I saw these on your “what’s in my make up bag?” post and was intrigued so took the challenge to find them. I actually found them in our local CVS drugstore and bought all three. I LOVE them and have one at my desk, one on my nightstand and one next in my purse! I, too, have dry lips but love lipstick and all things lip-smacking so they worth a try. I’ve now given them as girlfriend gifts—thanks for sharing. Now how about chocolate or mint??

How would you compare them to the ESOS lip balm and which do you prefer?

I have this in the vanilla one and I’m quite fond of it.

A $3.99 product that is on par with other higher end products? I am impressed! Thanks for the recommendation Kristina, I also suffer from dry lips so I will definitely try this product and my wallet will not complain if it doesn’t work.

I feel like whenever I hear about an amazing beauty product- its already been released in the UK! They get all the good stuff first! So unfair.
I definitely can’t wait to try these out; although my mom recently bought me La Mer’s The Balm and I’ve been using it constantly. It’s amazing. But not something I could splurge on for myself so I’ll have to try out Nivea’s balm when I need a new one!

I completely agree with you on every account! I love this little buggers so much. I featured them in one of my monthly favorite blog posts. I believe it was March..check it out ( I, too, use them before bed for a bit of extra moisture. My lips get super dry during the day but on the nights that I use my Lip Butter they don’t get as dry.
I’m curious if you find them to leave a bit of a color film on your lips at all? Could be the formulation of mine or too much application, which is possible (I can be a bit heavy handed at times.)

    Thanks. Love the review!

I read this last week, saw these babies at Target on Saturday, and grabbed the Raspberry Rose. L O V E it! I too and constantly dehydrated and my lips are always flaky, which doesn’t work well with my new commitment to lipstick. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of these! Happy so far!

    Hi Kristina,
I am a total newbie to your website! I was directed by my aunt to check it out and I have spent nearly the ENTIRE weekend catching up on everything you’ve ever posted – from videos, outfit posts, make up hauls, your education and fairly recent marriage (Congrats on both!). I love it all! So fun, light hearted, girly, and yet all very real. You have a new follower!

    Best of everything,
