NOTD: Essie Fiji

Essie “Fiji”

And now, we interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you: the NOTD! (That’s Nail of The Day, to you!)

Essie “Fiji” is notoriously hard to apply, according to several nail polish blogs and review sites.

all photos taken in daylight

But I didn’t have much trouble at all applying this polish. In fact, it only took two coats (one thin, one thick). I did apply a base coat (I used Salon Sciences Instant Artificials for nail strength and base coating) and top coat (Seche Vite), which may be why it went on smoother than expected. Pale opaque creams are difficult to apply anyway, which may be the culprit. But I just love this dreamy pale pink color. It reminds me of OPI “Mod About You” but a bit paler, pinker, and a tidge warmer.

But the best part about this is it highlights the sparkle of rings and jewelry quite nicely. It’s just pink enough to add femininity to your hand, but neutral enough that it does not push your style over the edge when wearing lots of jewelry. (It goes best with silver-toned jewelry, by the way). It is, quite simply, the most perfect pale pink polish I have ever encountered.

Products Used

You can purchase Essie products at Target, CVS, Walgreens, Amazon, or your local nail salon for about $8.

I hope you enjoyed this little beauty break! What did you think?

I love Essie polishes, they have such great colors!
I do personally think that pastel colors are harder to apply; it just takes some more patience!

    xx Grace

This looks so lovely – and I love Essie polishes half to death – I might have to try it!

I think Essie light pastel colours are always hard to apply without a good base, I find my very pale purple 'Nice Is Nice' goes on so much better with a base coat than without!

Thank you for posting this! I love nail polish, but sadly have the shortest stubbiest fingers known to man, so I shy away from anything dark. Neutrals, pale pinks, and french manicures, however I can do. They're like nude shoes, they don't cut off your fingers. I'm going to have to get myself some of this "perfect pale pink!" Thanks!

loving the color! Been looking for a polish like this!! Put it on my wishlist right away!!

    Happy Friday!

I love Essie polish. I will have to see if I have this one. Definitely a gorgeous color.

  12. 08.05.2011 / 6:10 am

I think I need some new polish! This looks like the most perfect pale pink polish.

  13. 08.05.2011 / 7:01 am

I like! I've been looking for a milky looking pink so I might have to pick this one up over the weekend!

Love Essie – That is a pretty color – I also like Ballet Slippers too! xoxo from Trinidad

  15. 08.05.2011 / 8:26 am

This is a great color! I usually don't like nail polishes that need two coats or more, but it looks great. Really feminine! And you did a nice manicure.

  16. 08.05.2011 / 8:32 am

I love essie colors! They have so many pretty pastels, such as this one! The best part is that I live right down the street from a wholesale distributor, so I can get them for $3 – $4!

  17. 08.05.2011 / 9:09 am

Love that colour! It's definitely a basic that every girl needs.

  18. 08.05.2011 / 9:21 am

Fiji is one of my staples…in fact, I'm wearing it right now. I think it happens to look amazing with gold, but that could also be because i never wear silver!

  19. 08.05.2011 / 9:26 am

Very pretty. I've been using OPI Ballet Slippers, which is a similar pale pink. 🙂

Fiji is one of my favorite polishes ever! It can be hard to apply perfectly since it shows flaws more then other polishes. I put it on my toes a lot. If you like that color, you should see if you can find Essie's We Can Do It Pink! (it was their breast cancer awareness color so it might be hard to find).

  21. 08.05.2011 / 11:05 am

Love this color. I'm a major fan of OPI's Mod About You, too and this one is so close, yet so different. Great post!

  22. 08.05.2011 / 11:27 am

    Love this color! So Pretty!

  23. 08.05.2011 / 1:02 pm

That colours gorgeous I must add it to my collection!

  24. 08.05.2011 / 3:51 pm

That's one of my favorite Essie colors right now! Plus I love beaches… and it makes me think of the Fiji islands. (:

I used Fiji and Tart Deco together in a fun manicure. It didn't seem too difficult to apply, but you do have to apply a fairly even layer and not go over the same spot multiple times. Either way, I love the pale pink color!

  25. 08.05.2011 / 8:17 pm

You can find them for $5 on Amazon!!
I like Essie's Neo Whimsical =) I think it fits my skin tone well … but it does take a skill to apply the nail polish

Really pretty color! I was just asking this on another blog but do you find that Essie brushes clump after one or two uses? This has happened with 3 Essie colors I've bought this summer and I'm not sure if its me or the formula of the polishes! Any ideas?

  29. 08.06.2011 / 11:32 pm

Oh man, I love this color. I've been looking for something pink and pastel to end the summer with. And this looks like the perfect color! Another one to add to my Essie collection

  30. 08.07.2011 / 2:30 pm

I just did this color not to long ago (but mine was OPI). Love it!

  31. 08.07.2011 / 8:44 pm

I just bought this color yesterday 🙂 I cant wait to try it out, your nails look awesome.
    xo Teresa

  32. 08.07.2011 / 9:40 pm

Love it! I already have waaay too many nude nail polishes, perhaps I'll have to add another 😉 Seche Vite is the best manicure tool ever.

  33. 08.08.2011 / 6:23 pm

I love this color! So classic! I really love that its almost white, but not quite!

  34. 08.08.2011 / 11:30 pm

I was just wanting to paint my toes with a color like this… but I didn't have the color at the time! Now I know which one to buy 🙂 Thanks darling!

  35. 08.09.2011 / 8:42 am

Love this color I just brought it today ..

  36. 08.09.2011 / 5:19 pm

I love pale, creamy pinks, but they can be difficult to apply (then again, I'm not the best nail painter.) Your nails look flawless and the color is gorgeous!

  37. 08.17.2011 / 5:21 am

love doing this when i dont want to wear monochrome colours

  38. 09.04.2011 / 5:25 am

This is one of my all time favorite summer colors! You must be a nail professional because even some of the girls in my nail salon have a hard time applying it. If it isn't applied right, it looks chunky and runny mixed into one. You are amazing – you ddi it perfect!

Why thank you! I'm no nail expert, but maybe I just got a good bottle? I also thinned it a little with nail polish thinner.
