Poetry in Motion

Being back home after three days in NYC for fashion blog conferences galore is like waking up from a dream. Instead of temperatures hovering in the twenties, we enjoyed a crisp day in the 60’s and a sun that warmed our backs as we walked. The past week has been so amazing – meeting wonderful people in real life (like Joan Rivers, my favorite blog peeps, and readers like YOU) was definitely the highlight.

I’m sad that I had to leave Evolving Influence early to catch my flight…I heard the boys of Proenza Schouler were amazing. I hope you were able to catch the conference on livestream – I really enjoyed reading your tweets of support after I finally sat down (1.5 hours of moderating a panel makes for tired legs and sore feet–even in the new Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony platforms). How weird is it that I barely took any pictures in NYC?! Part of me didn’t want to look too much like a tourist, and another part of me didn’t want to lug my camera around and risk getting mugged.

So, unfortunately, I have no NYC outfit photos for you – terrible, I know, but with all the picture taking with others, I didn’t find the time to take proper outfit photos! Fortunately the lovely people of Vogue Nippon shot my IFB outfit (which consisted of an alice + olivia sequined top, ivory cuffed high waisted pants by American Apparel, and Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony platforms) so maybe I’ll spot it somewhere on the internet or in print.

Big shout-out to my little brother Lukas for taking these outfit photos!!

This Mink Pink top was one of the several pieces I brought to New York that didn’t make the cut thanks to the frigid weather. I love it so much though, and it’s perfect for spring days and will transition well to summer and fall. HB calls it a “pirate shirt” and although he has a point, I think the pink would thwart the eye-patch-wearing sailors, don’t you?

These Forever 21 platforms mimic the coveted Miu Miu platforms and I love their almost butterfly-like detail on the arches. I love a good, cheap, knockoff!

I love that shirt, it is soo pretty and soo my style, and with the belt, perfection 🙂

    • 02.13.2011 / 9:06 pm

Thanks Erika! I had to add the belt to avoid risking looking preggers. 🙂 It's quite the flouncy shirt!

LOVE the outfit, you look gorge! And jealous of your F21s, tried to get a pair myself but it appears I wasn't quick enough!

I know, I see they are sold out – totally sucks! You might try the actual stores…sometimes those don't sell out as fast as online. Good luck!!

Gorgeous outfit, those platforms are amazing! We NEED F21 in England and soon.

I don't care about looking like a tourist in NYC. That place is my heaven on Earth and I took over 3000 photos in 6 days there last June – insane I know. Your brother is a talented photographer, these are great.

    • 02.13.2011 / 12:33 am

Wow….3000 photos in 6 days? I'm speechless. I wish I was more photo-prolific during the trip but sometimes you just need memories kept solely in your head I guess!

  5. 02.13.2011 / 9:05 am

I really love this outfit! And I think you're right, the pretty pale pink definitely thwarts any pirate resemblance! 😉 You did a fantastic job at the IFB conference, I was able to catch it via livestream & you are even prettier 'in person'! Hopefully an outfit photo will surface eventually, because you looked fab!! Loved the sequins!

    • 02.13.2011 / 12:34 am

Thank you so much Kate! Wish you could have been there!!

  6. 02.13.2011 / 9:23 am

Ohhh those platforms are FABULOUS. I love F21 knock-offs- they're as close as I can get to the real deal on my budget. And I see the "pirate" in this shirt, but I love it! It's so soft and pink and feminine, and you've styled it masterfully.

    • 02.13.2011 / 12:35 am

Thanks Tiffany! Arrrrrrg! (That's my best pirate imitation. Sorry.) 😉

This is such a pretty outfit Kristina! I love everything about it. The pink top has a feminine romantic feel and the pants and F21 heels add a touch of sophistication.

Thank you Kinsey! Hope you are enjoying NYC!

    • 02.13.2011 / 9:08 pm

Thanks – I'll be sure to tell him that. 🙂

  11. 02.13.2011 / 3:13 pm

Love those pants! And the shirt is such a pretty shade of pink 🙂
Are the F21 shoes comfortable? I've always steered from purchasing shoes from them for fear that they would kill my feet.

    • 02.13.2011 / 9:08 pm

F21 shoes certainly are NOT the most comfortable in the world. But when you want to wear on-trend shoes maybe a couple of times (not everyday)…they do the job pretty well.

  12. 02.13.2011 / 6:20 pm

That shirt is beyond gorgeous. i love the uneven, ruffly hem. So feminine!

    • 02.13.2011 / 9:09 pm

Thanks Holly! I do love the uneven hem – probably even more so now that I really notice it in the pictures. Some things you just can't appreciate til they're captured on film (or on screen)!

What a great outfit! And totally appropriate for Valentine's Day!

    • 02.16.2011 / 12:45 am

Silly me, I wore it on Saturday, 2 days before V day. Might have to recreate this for next year's date!

  17. 02.14.2011 / 10:16 am

Hey There! You were FABULOUS at IFBCon. I wasn't there, but thankfully I was able to watch the live stream. As usual, it was such a great and informative conference. There is just so much to learn from other bloggers.

You look beautiful (duh!). I love that top, and the leopard belt adds just a little edge. It's perfect! Seriously, how did I miss those shoes at F21? CUTE, CUTE, CUTE!

    • 02.16.2011 / 12:43 am

Thanks so much! you are too sweet! 🙂

  18. 02.14.2011 / 11:08 am

Love the sheen to those black jeans. I think pink keeps you from looking like a pirate…maybe if you got that eye patch like you mentioned, a parrot on your shoulder and a peg leg, you might be all set. I have a pair of pants I find incredibly comfortable that I jokingly call my pirate pants

  19. 02.16.2011 / 8:25 pm

Seriously swooning over this look! Sooo romantic but not overly sweet…perfect!

  20. 02.18.2011 / 4:37 pm

Oddly enough, I love these shoes. Pink and anything works for me. Thanks for the post!
