Second Skin

Like a Glove

The easiest way to make myself feel like a million bucks is slip on a pair of well-fitting, flattering, comfortable jeans. It can instantly perk my mood up, and make me look good & feel good even on a “fat day”*. I had the privilege of designing this pair of hand-made custom jeans by Indi Custom, suited to my specific measurements, body shape (even booty shape!), and the style I was going for. I opted for a wide hem, high-waisted flare jean with subtle sanding on the thighs, classic back pockets, slit pockets in the front and a double tab waistband. The result is my new favorite jean. The material is thick and higher quality than even my 7 for all mankinds and Paige pairs. I know it will last and last and last…which is great because I plan on wearing these all the time!

*Hey, we all have them, no matter our size or shape!

Cost per Wear (AKA Rationalization)

The cost is $165, which is less or equal to a standard pair of designer denim (but I’ve seen designers’ prices increase to well above $200 in recent seasons). The cost per wear is going to be way, way less than my other designer jeans, however. For one thing, I didn’t need to have it hemmed. It’s customised to fit my personal inseam length. It will last longer, and since it fits the best on me than all my other pairs, I’m definitely going to wear it more–all of which decrease my cost per wear.

Another significant piece to my outfit today is my Mikimoto for Japan Relief pendant. I am honored to wear this pendant which was designed by Mikimoto, whom we all know as the only name that matters in pearls. The pendant will be available for three days only (Jun 22 thru Jun 24) on their Facebook page, and at their retail stores & online thereafter. All net proceeds will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross! Remember Japan’s needs don’t cease just because news coverage does.

My love of NARS Pure Matte in Carthage continues, and my new favorite nail polish trend has been sheer nude-pinks (here I’m wearing Essie in “Ballet Slippers”) which complement my most prized possession (and sparkliest accessory) nicely. Now, if I could just stop staring at the darn thing, I might be able to get some work done around here!

Custom-made jeans – you may have just hit upon my ultimate dream buy! I own quite a lot of designer denim (I've always felt good jeans were an instant pick-me-up!) but it was all bought on serious mark-down!

This treat is maybe one to save up for though!

I'm surprised your next post was not something with the centrepoint as the ring.. You have a lot more restraint than me lol 🙂 nice outfit.. i like the way the necklace and the vest go together

  5. 06.20.2011 / 2:54 am

I love your jeans…. maybe I should invest in some designer jeans, too. You make it sound like such a good idea.

Those jeans are so flattering on you! The mixture of prints in this attire are so pretty blended together, and the embellished detail on the waistcoat is dazzling.

I love the outfit! I love when people can think outside the box and put together ensembles that coordinate without being too matchy…. Think "Anthropologie", not "JCPenny". 🙂 You look great, girl and the ring is beautiful! Congratulations!

Thanks for your support, Shannah! 🙂

We're so glad that you love your INDI jeans. I think they look amazing! And I couldn't agree more – a good pair of jeans can totally change your mood. Clothes that fit perfectly are so key to looking stylish.

  14. 06.20.2011 / 11:37 am

You did a great job designing them, they look great on you! Not sure if I can break out that much right now but it is something to look forward to doing!

Wow! Those jeans are FAB! I love how you paired the striped shirt with the vest – you always manage to make separate, non-matching pieces go together! And that BLING on your left hand brings it all together!

Good luck on the Surgery exam!

Wow the custom pair of jeans look great on you, perfect, i'd say. I would love a custom pair of jeans as well, I always seem to find something about jeans that don't quite flatter the areas I'd like them to on my body. Yes we all have fat days…I have them all the time, especially when 'those' days are about to come…the water retention, the bloatedness. -sigh

I love your outfit, it looks chic and comfortable at the same time. The shoes are fabulous, love the leopard print on them and the style 🙂

  17. 06.20.2011 / 4:29 pm

These are some great jeans! Totally worth the price.. Can't stop looking at your engagement ring, it is sooooo pretty!

    That vest is amazing!!!

  21. 06.20.2011 / 9:15 pm

Those jeans are fantastic! I've been considering some custom jeans lately myself but like another commenter I can't commit to one kind (skinny/straight/bootcut/ahh the stress!) 🙂 For now I'll stick with my Karen Millen high waist jeans – the best I've found for my body type so far. Just did an outfit post on Sunday in those jeans myself. Love your style and always look forward to reading your posts!! 🙂

  22. 06.20.2011 / 9:52 pm

Love the outfit, but I must agree… that ring! It's hard to focus on anything else. Talk about a STUNNER.

  23. 06.20.2011 / 10:33 pm

Oh no, I really wish you hadn't linked to the site.. now I will be thinking about CUSTOM made jeans … until I give in and buy a pair! haha

They look great on you. But what if you get them and you don't like the look/fit? Are you stuck with them? That would be my main concern even though they are "created" for your body.

    Gorgeous as always!

Hi Brittni – Indi Custom will re-make an entire pair of jeans for you if you are not happy with the fit of the ones you purchased. It's their guarantee! I love that.

  24. 06.21.2011 / 9:24 am has been FOREVER since I have stopped in…looks like someone got engaged..What a STUNNING ring and congratulations and good luck w all the planning and festivities…so fun!

Love the jeans and agreed that nothing makes you feel better than a great fit, but what I am really lusting after is that VEST…love how it is a tad on the dressy side, but you played it casual w the striped shirt. Great look.

  25. 06.21.2011 / 10:44 am

Wow! Gorgeous through and through. The ring is beautiful, and suits you so well!! And the jeans are totally flattering. Love the straight, wide cut. Very dramatic!!

If only all your readers were as confident as you are!!
