Style Recipe: Rustic Prep Girl Chic

I am loving this combination lately. It’s very Alexa Chung. And it’s a whole lot of Zara and Madewell (sorry, it’s just on my radar a lot lately). From sequined wallets-big-as-clutches to supple leather backpacks (let’s bring the backpack back, y’all), to tweed shorts with black tights…topped off with olive hued jackets, a jaunty fedora, and striped shirt. Well, it just screams new take on old classics to me. Everything has a twist. {The backpack, but it’s leather; the clutch, but it’s sequined; the black tights but with tweed shorts…the list goes on}

Can you see yourself wearing any or some of these pieces? Honestly I could wear them all…but I’d stick to one bag at a time (and I’ve already purchased the canvas Madewell bag and LOVE IT!).

  • I can totally see myself wearing this outfit. Maybe with trousers to work and then change to shorts and add the hat for an evening with the extended family. I can even run behind V without worrying about my outfit 🙂 Nice one.

  • My husband just bought me that clutch yesterday in store because it was sold out online and I have been DYING for it! I cannot wait to use it! It’s looks even better in person 🙂

  • This is a recipe for success! Especially as a busy mom, adding some glam to my weekday look is key. And these are simple pieces that work well together. Adding to my style file. Thanks!

I really love this look, so perfect for autumn. I am definitely going to invest in some tweet shorts, would look awesome with tights as you say. Lovely colour selection.

I love the clutch and the jacket! The clutch is a MUST have!

  • I’d like to try the tweed shorts and black tights but just wonder if I am too old to pull that off. Also, show no shoes..not quite sure what shoes to wear with the short look! ?
Also, as an aside. Is the plugin you use for your social icons on the left called Sharebar? Did you have to code in the +1 button? I am using sharebar but it doesn’t have a choice to dummy in a +1–I haven’t had a chance to figure out how to code one many people have the +1 it makes me wonder if I just grabbed the wrong sharebar? Thanks.

  • I was checking out that Zara clutch on their site yesterday. I just love sequins so much. I also really love the jacket; It’s very Burberry like.

I really like everything, the sweather, scarf, the Zara jacket and the tote. What I am really liking in the blue blazer, with that chucky man watch, it so classic looking. I got my eye on that watch.

  • I’m loving it all; especially the fedora (so classic) and sequined wallet. I also am eyeing that blue blazer! I have a navy one, but that blue with the unique cuffs = hott.
    Great post =)

  • I was in Zara at the weekend and I couldn’t believe how many amazing pieces they have in at the moment. I’m just loving all the metallics for A/W. I think a little trip there after payday is definitely in order.
This look isn’t really me – reminds me a lot of rich people in the countryside – but that sequinned clutch DEFINITELY is. 🙂

  • Lusting over that Zara wallet! Although being British I also have love for that olive green jacket – reminds me of a Barbour 🙂

  • I love this post! I already own tweed shorts that I wear with tights, and lots of olive tops, but I love the sequined wallet and that great leather backpack. It looks so soft!

  • I love all of your picks but the back pack won my heart! i need it in my life ASAP 🙂

  • This is such a great style collage! I can definitely see myself wearing most of these pieces, I also definitely lean towards rustic colours in the fall – lately, I’m wearing a lot of dark red/garnet/burgundy, brown, plum and navy.- Laura S

  • Eeek! Could not love your compilation anymore! Love Madewell everything for Fall and need to hop over to a Zara ASAP, though I’m sure to have lost out on the sequined wallet. It’s been a crazy, busy summer and now I’m trying to catch-up on blog reading. I’ve been a a bad BDIB – but I’ll try to get better. 🙂
